Chris: Sequencing this record brought with it a new set of challenges. Not only the usual parameters of what feels right and which songs will make the other ones shine the brightest and so on, but because we release our records on vinyl too, we were stuck with a length problem because “Where Time Always Goes” is more than 7 minutes long.
So, naturally the record needed to be sequenced so we got most of the short songs on side B where “…Time…” was, and most of the longer songs on side A, but it couldn’t feel like that… Side A could easily feel a little longish with just longer songs, so it was a fun challenge and made it all a lot more difficult, but we nailed it in the end.
Not that our usual outros are very long, but we figured we’d want a really short one this time, to make sure we didn’t spend too much valuable time. We also wanted one that would go with the mood of “…Time…” so it would feel more like an extension of the song, rather than a separate piece at the end of the record. That’s where the idea of just the sound of a wave and the French girl from the intro saying our slogan; “over & motherfucking out!” in a romantic French voice came from. She did it great! It works! It would never have sounded like an extension of the song, or fit the mood, if spoken in English, and even worse if me or our usual, fantastic, voice actor Dave Derglin would do it. It just wouldn’t have worked, but the way it turned out it’s a perfect end to the record.
