Marilyn Manson: “The Last Time They Tried To Kill Me I Made A Record Called Holly Wood”

“The Last Time They Tried To Kill Me I Made A Record Called Holly Wood” – screamed Marilyn Manson from the stage.

During his performance in Holmdel, New Jersey, on August 5th, Marilyn Manson made a comment onstage that appeared to be addressed to the ongoing legal saga in which he has been involved since 2021.

Before launching into the song “Disposable Teens,” he said, “The last time they tried to kill me, I made a record called Holy Wood.” The album Holy Wood from 2000 was mentioned because it came out in the aftermath of the Columbine High School massacre, for which Marilyn Manson faced significant backlash after it was revealed that the individuals involved were fans of his music.

The legendary shock rocker recently returned to the music scene after a three-year hiatus with a new single, “As Sick As The Secrets Within,” which garnered over a million streams on both Spotify and YouTube in its first week of release.

Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) is the fourth studio album by Marilyn Manson, released on November 11, 2000. This album is notable for its industrial rock and metal sound, blending elements from Manson’s previous works, particularly the glam rock influences of Mechanical Animals with a more aggressive industrial sound reminiscent of Antichrist Superstar. Manson described Holy Wood as “the industrial White Album” and intended it to be the first part of a triptych that includes Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals, with the storyline unfolding in reverse chronological order
