Axl Rose Makes Surprise Appearance on Michael Schenker’s New UFO Tribute Album

Axl Rose singing at the official release is so rare these days (years) that it needs immediate attention.

He was a guest on the new Michael Schenker album My Time With UFO, where Schenker re-recorded the biggest hits from UFO’s discography during the time he was in the band. Besides Axl, the album includes a list of prominent musicians such as Slash, Erik Grönwall, Kai Hansen, Dee Snider, Joel Hoekstra, Stephen Pearcy, Adrian Vandenberg, and many others.

Michael Schenker was recently interviewed by Sonic Perspectives correspondent Robert Cavuoto where he explained how Axl Rose actually ended up in his project: T”here was the situation with Axl where Slash came to the studio in Frankfurt and told me, ‘Hey Michael, I just told Axl that I’m on my way to do this with you,’ and he said, ‘Oh, maybe I can sing a song or two as well.’ And I said, ‘Well, that would be fantastic.’ So Axl ended up singing Love to Love, which is an excellent version.”

“…the only person I think who tried three songs was Axl. He did Too Hot to Handle, Only You Can Rock Me, and Love to Love. But because they were on tour, and Axl is a perfectionist, he wanted to do it right but didn’t have enough time for three songs. So, he decided to focus on Love to Love only, and he did a fantastic job.”

In the same interview, Michael Schenker revealed that on his upcoming 2025 tour, Erik Grönwall, who recently left Skid Row, will be the singer. He also hinted that Axl Rose might be interested in joining for some Japan dates with his band.

The album is out today, Friday, September 20, and it marks the 50th anniversary of Michael Schenker’s era with the British rock legends UFO, spanning from 1972 to 1978. The German wunderkind was asked to join UFO when he was only 17.
