Welcome to the First-Ever Junkyard Rock Stories Awards!

Every year, we’ve celebrated the best albums of the year with your votes, but this time, we’re going bigger and better! Introducing the Junkyard Rock Stories Awards, where we celebrate everything that made 2024 rock.

We’ve got 12 categories for you to dive into: the best albums, the best videos, the best songs, the best artists, the best moments—and so much more. It’s the ultimate snapshot of 2024 in rock and metal and our way of saying thank you to the incredible bands who kept the spirit alive all year long.

Now, it’s time to honor their contributions and let YOU, the fans, decide who takes home the glory. Vote for your favorites, have fun, and let’s rock these awards like never before!

Now, let’s talk about the rules, as well as how and why some bands are nominated while others are not.

First, no one can possibly discover and listen to all the music released in a single year—it’s just not feasible. That’s why, at Junkyard Rock Stories, our nominations focus primarily on the albums we’ve come across, reviewed, discussed, or simply enjoyed. These albums align with the style and vibe of our website. While we’ve encountered many more releases, we’ve narrowed it down to 35 albums—more than enough for you to pick from.

Albums

You can choose up to five albums (or fewer if you don’t have five favorites). From your votes, we’ll create a traditional Top 10 list to celebrate the best of the year. Only full albums are eligible – no compilations, EP releases or re-releases (re-visited, re-imagined or whatever).

Best Videos

This category has two subcategories:

Contemporary Bands: Bands currently active in the scene.
Legacy Bands: Long-established acts with enduring influence.

Any video released as a standalone single or part of an album from 2024 is eligible. Also, some videos from 2023 are eligible if the song was released on the album that came out in 2024.

Best Songs

We’ve divided this category into four subcategories to include a variety of styles and make the competition more exciting:

Heavy Rock Song
Legacy Band Song
Hair/Glam/Sleaze Song
Alternative Rock/Metal Song
Punk ‘n’ Roll Song

These divisions give us the flexibility to spotlight diverse artists and make the awards more inclusive. The eligible songs are the ones that were from an albums released in 2024, EP releases and compilations, and in some cases, standalone singles also.

Artists of the Year

This category is divided into two subcategories:

Artist of the Year: Eligible only for artists who released an album in 2024.
Up-and-Coming Artist: This one is entirely our choice, as we aim to spotlight emerging talent deserving of recognition.

YouTube and Podcasts

This category honors the content creators who inspire and provide material for us throughout the year. Their content often makes its way onto our website, so this is our way of showing gratitude. You can vote for up to three of your favorite creators if you happen to know them. If not, you better check them out!

Best Rock Moments

This is just pure fun! We’ve collected a mix of good and bad moments from the year—now it’s your turn to decide which were the most entertaining or impactful.

The results will be announced shortly after the 17th December!
