My Top 10 Albums of 2024
Hey guys, it’s time for me to give you my Top 10 Albums of 2024. You had your chance to choose in our Junkyard Rock Stories Awards 2024, and you did it very well. This time, it’s simply me, as the editor of this website, giving you what I listened to the most this past year.
But before I start, I must say something about the year in general. 2024 was by far the worst year since I started doing this Top 10 Albums thing here on Junkyard, and I am talking about the period from 2017 to 2024. Even the very poor 2023 was much better than 2024, but it can’t compete with monster years like 2022 or 2018, for example.
That does not mean that these Top 10 on my list were bad albums. No, not at all. For me, these albums would compete for the Top 10 places in any other year before. The problem with 2024 was an overall problem.
First, legacy bands failed to deliver. We’ve seen a lot of solo albums in 2024 from legacy band musicians. These albums can be good, but they are not something that defines a year or an era. Nobody is going to remember 2024 for just that. Younger bands, on the other hand—yeah, you will see at least 9 albums on this list that were really good. But in general, the middle bands may have been caught up in a pause, given the fact that many of them announced new albums for 2025.
And the newest and youngest ones? Well, I guess they need to work a little bit more and start creating not only good albums but something that will place them high on the spot when picking headlines.
But we will talk about that next time. Here are my top 10 albums for 2024. Hint – the picture above shows you 6 more honorable mentions!
