MTV VMA Awards 2025: Rock Is Back… Through a Tribute Band

Real rock music is coming back to the MTV VMA Awards this year! Sounds unbelievable, doesn’t it? You’re probably wondering which bands and artists we’re talking about. Maybe it’s one of your favorite bands that had a successful video in the past year or something like that.

Well, you’re wrong, what can I tell you. Yes, we do have the return of true hard n’ heavy music, but in the form of a Tribute band that will play in honor of the recently passed Ozzy Osbourne, and it will consist of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Nuno Bettencourt, and Yungblud. Great. And it should be like that. I fully support something like this because Ozzy deserves it.

But what about the others? Where are the other bands from this genre that set the world and the charts on fire with their releases this past year?

Okay, well fine, maybe I’m exaggerating a little. We do have Linkin Park, Lenny Kravitz, Green Day, Coldplay (not rock), and Twenty One Pilots (I don’t know what they are and I don’t care, but they’re definitely not rock) in the category for Best Rock Video. And…. that’s basically it. No Ghost, no Sleep Token. Bands that dominated in every sense this year. And when you don’t have those, then it’s absurd to even mention some of the smaller new bands, whose time is yet to come.

Pathetic and miserable, like every year, at an event called the MTV VMA Awards, but that’s not all: it will be broadcasted this Sunday on CBS. Because, well, damn it, it would be stupid to mess up and ruin the programming schedule of the priceless reality shows that MTV has been doing for the last 20 years. If that “television” even exists at all…I couldn’t care less.

So, the bottom line here is: we are only allowing real rock to be featured but only if someone dies.
