The Story of Santa Cruz Finally Told: Richy Kearns Explores the Band’s Turbulent Journey

Santa Cruz – the Finnish sleaze glam outfit that at one point came within reach of the stars, has received its first fan-made documentary, produced by Richy Kearns Productions. This isn’t the first time Richy Kearns has focused on bands from the new wave of sleaze metal. Many will remember his earlier work on acts such as Crashdïet and BlackRain.

This time, the spotlight turns to the cult favorite Santa Cruz and, of course, their enigmatic frontman Archie Cruz. In this thirty-minute film, Richy takes a chronological look at the rise and fall of this remarkable band, while also raising the inevitable question: how far could Santa Cruz have gone if things hadn’t taken that fateful turn in 2018? The documentary also carries a personal note, as the author shares his own struggles from that same period, adding a layer of authenticity and uniqueness to the project. Richy Kearns is, in fact, one of the rare YouTubers, or better said, fans who truly recognizes the magnitude and potential this band once had, and isn’t afraid to say so publicly, as he does in this film.

Santa Cruz is a band most people seem to just love to hate, while only a minority truly understands. No books will be written about them, and few will debate the truly creative peak they reached in 2015 with their second album, and their attempt to invent something while still in the border of the genre. Unfortunately…

Instead, discussions will forever revolve around frontman Archie Cruz, a figure destined to remain on the margins of rock history, remembered primarily as a deeply controversial personality. The level of negativity that still emerges from part of the audience is astonishing. It’s the same audience that romanticizes the questionable behavior of their musical idols from the past (from 80s), yet simultaneously complains about the lack of new idols who embody that same reckless spirit. What a paradox.

All things considered, whichever side of the audience you belong to, this brilliant film is essential viewing! Also don’t forget to follow Richy Kearns and support the scene!
