Bon Jovi Runaway Album Cover Location Confirmed

You already know how much we at Junkyard love doing a good geo-location task, whether it’s a scene from a music video, a photograph, or in this case, the location where the cover photo for the debut album of Bon Jovi Runaway was taken.

Of course, like every investigation so far, this one also started with a simple Google search, which immediately led us to the result itself. Yes, you guessed it, someone had already located the Runaway scene and provided proof, which can be found on this popular Facebook page. Simply put, we can’t be first in everything and always unique. The internet always finds a way to surprise you…

However, since we can’t take credit for finding this scene, and to avoid this turning into mere copying and taking someone else’s content, while fully giving credit to the author of that post for the discovery, what we can do is conduct a reverse investigation: is this really the location where the cover of Bon Jovi’s first album was shot?

So, the author of the post tells us that the exact location is on 58th Street in New York, between 8th and 8th Avenue, not far from Columbus Circle. The windows on the left side of the album cover match perfectly, while those on the right are somewhat debatable.

On that right side today stands a tall building known as the Deutsche Bank Center. However, after a brief investigation, we found out that construction of that building began in 2000. The cover, of course, is from 1984, which raises the question: what stood there before 2000?

The author of the post also provided that information. It was the famous Coliseum, a building that stood on that same spot at the time the album cover was made. Perfect! That’s exactly the kind of lead every investigator hopes to find.

So, on the cover we see a building with vertical arches. After searching for images of The Coliseum, we immediately notice that it’s the exact same building. If we also add the fact that it stood precisely where today’s Deutsche Bank Center is, spanning both 58th and 60th Street, things become completely clear – that’s it, the exact location where the Runaway album cover by Bon Jovi was shot.

This aerial comparison we found on Reddit, along with the 3D aerial view on Google Maps, proves it as well. The clue is the building behind, with the red point maker. A great find, and once again, thanks to the original author for this discovery! A big Bon Jovi fan as it seems!
