John Sykes Finally Release New Music
Breaking news! Literally! Former guitarist of Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Blue Murder, John Sykes, has released a new song. For those who might not be familiar with the legendary guitarist’s work, or simply haven’t followed his career, this is the first new song—new music in general—since Sykes’ last solo album, which came out way back in 2007.
Thirteen years of silence, thirteen years of promises about the album Sy-Ops, from which this song originates, have passed amidst misunderstandings with record labels, the artist’s own stubbornness, unofficial SoundCloud recordings, and other nonsense. Sykes had been announcing this album year after year, claiming it was ready to be released, but until today, we practically had nothing. With this, he’s evened out with Axl Rose and his album delays—though, slowly but surely, a new record for postponements might be on the horizon if this trend continues.
As for John Sykes, the song is currently available only on YouTube. Announcements about the release of this first track started circulating yesterday, but we approached them with some skepticism, given the years of letdowns. However, it’s a new year, a new era, and we’ve received a real musical bombshell to kick off 2021. Without further ado: listen to the first single from the long-awaited album Sy-Ops, titled Dawning of a Brand New Day!
