Wednesday 13: “I Learned Guitar from Faster Pussycat—Now We’re Working on a Song Together”
It’s not every day that a musician gets to collaborate with one of the artists who inspired them to pick up an instrument in the first place, but for Wednesday 13, that moment has definitely arrived. The horror-punk icon is set to release his upcoming album Mid Death Crisis, and fans will be in for a treat—one of the tracks, No Apologies, features none other than Faster Pussycat frontman Taime Downe on vocals.
For Wednesday, this isn’t just another guest spot—it’s a full-circle moment. As revealed in a recent interview on the Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown Podcast , the Murderdolls mastermind credited Faster Pussycat as a key influence in his early days as a musician. “I learned to play guitar because of Faster Pussycat,” he said, reminiscing about the sleaze rock legends.
“I learned to play guitar from the first Faster Pussycat album when I was 11 years old, with no guitar lessons. A friend of mine gave me a guitar tablature book of Faster Pussycat. I didn’t even know what tablature was. Someone explained it to me. I read it. I understood it, and I learned every note on their first album.”
He also revealed another interesting personal influence, stating, “I dyed my hair black because of Taime.”
So how did this collaboration come about? Sometimes these rock things happens in the most casual ways. Wednesday 13 explained that while recording No Apologies, he laid down the main guitar hook for the track, and his producer immediately recognized its vibe. “That sounds like Faster Pussycat,” the producer noted. And with that, an idea was born.
“I went, yeah, it kind of does,” Wednesday recalled. “And then he said, you should call up Taime and have him sing on this. And I said, yeah, I should. And then I got my phone and I called him.” Just like that, a dream collaboration was set in motion.
Taime, who has been a friend of Wednesday 13 since he moved to L.A., jumped on board. The two had already toured together, including a two-week run in Australia with Faster Pussycat. Their shared history made the collab even more natural, but that’s not all. As we reported back in November 2024, Taime Downe hinted at the possibility that Wednesday 13 might collaborate with Faster Pussycat on one of their new songs. Something is definitely cocking…
Wednesday 13 already released a lead single from the upcoming album called When The Devil Commands, for which we did a reaction video. However, the next single won’t be the one with Taime Downe. On March 18th, the band is set to release another song from the album, In Misery. Although the video for No Apologies is already in the works.
