Guernica Mancini Reveals the Meaning Behind The Gems’ Wild New Video

When The Gems dropped their latest single “Live and Let Go,” it came with a video that — at least to me — felt a bit confusing at first. In my reaction video, I openly admitted that I didn’t quite get what was going on. What the heck were they trying to show here?

Turns out, that confusion was exactly the point.

Guernica Mancini, after seeing reaction video, hit me up and explained what the madness was all about:

“The video is a performance video but we had to add something ridiculous as well because that’s what makes it truly a gem haha. We all play different characters — Mona is a sort of a female version of an incel, just living at home, not contributing to anything, just wasting away. Spoiled and rude to her mom. Emlee is a mother that hates her life and her children. Those children (adults still living at home) who turned out to be 2 not so great humans. And G who is a foot fetish model on OnlyFans with a slight drug problem… but the main provider of this dysfunctional family.”

So yeah, it’s not just random — it’s a bunch of tragic freaks living under one roof, being miserable and ridiculous together. And it’s supposed to mess with your head. Guernica spelled it out even more:

“We like to have fun and don’t take ourselves too serious so having an odd element in our video is part of our DNA. And the fact that it bothered you and you didn’t get it is great — makes you think… And then you won’t forget it.”

So, incels, foot fetishes, and burnout moms? Who would have thought… Welcome to The Gems’ nightmare family, I guess. It’s brilliantly twisted. It’s a “disasterpiece”. But hey, they wanted it to be weird. They wanted it to leave you scratching your head. They wanted you not to forget it.

And guess what? It worked. It’s rock n’ roll!
