Some Bands Get the MTV Moment Right Away – Alleycat Scratch Waited 33 Years
While a large number of bands managed to “make it” thanks mostly to a single music video that got heavy rotation on MTV during the late 80s and early 90s, there were also those who had to wait for something like that. Sometimes for a year or two, and in the case of Alleycat Scratch, for as long as 33 years.
For many fans of Sunset Strip rock, Alleycat Scratch has always been remembered through old photos, live club footage and their 1993 debut album Deadboys In Trash City. That was all they had and all they could offer. However, that has finally changed.
As part of the Return To The Trash City – Reimagined, Remixed and Remastered album, which has just become available through FnA Records, these legendary sleaze rockers have also released a video for the song Roses On My Grave. At the same time, they have officially unveiled their very first proper music video. Even though the song dates back to 1993, fans now have the chance to see the band in high definition for the very first time.
Over the years, YouTube featured videos of the band that mostly came from old live recordings and performances at clubs along the Sunset Strip. Although those clips captured the raw sleaze spirit that defined the band, they never had the look and feel of an official music video.
With this video, which literally opens with a piano and roses on a grave, everything has changed. The footage showing the band performing the song comes from the past, and it is obvious that the magic of today’s technology has been used on it, just as it has on the song itself, which has received new background vocals, piano, synth and acoustic guitar parts for this reissue.
All in all, longtime fans have finally been given the chance to see their favorite band in HD, and believe us, there are plenty of them because Alleycat Scratch is considered a legendary sleaze rock band. At the same time, Eddie Robbinson, Bobba Dias, Davin Lovelace, and Robbi Black have finally received something they truly deserved all those years ago, long before many other bands did.
