Axl Rose: Slash Wrote His Only GnR Melody While Drunk in a Van

At the end of their show in Barcelona, right before Paradise City, Axl Rose talked to the crowd and told an interesting story behind the famous song.

According to him, the band was in a van on the way to Los Angeles from San Francisco. Since everyone was wasted, Axl thought that would be the perfect time to write a new song.

Duff had the idea for the chorus. Axl had parts for the verses and Izzy added some melodies. But the key part came from Slash, which is according to Axl, the only melody Slash ever wrote for Guns N’ Roses.

“He was all drunk, upside down on the bench chair, going ‘Take meee homeee,’” Axl said.

That very moment turned into what we today know as Paradise City. On the other hand, it is very nice to hear these stories right from Axl himself. The man doesn’t talk at all with the press, so these little chats while on stage are priceless.
