Suicide Bombers Turn Up the Heat with Their New Video for “Tonight Belongs to Us”

Just when you thought it was over for new hell-raising sleaze rock videos this year, the ultimate Norwegian rock ‘n roll’ reprobates Suicide Bombers have brought us this sleazy piece of art called ‘Tonight Belongs to Us.It’s another hidden gem from their latest album, All For The Candy, that according to the band has become their most-streamed song of 2024. And it’s easy to see why. With its catchy chorus and magical vibe, it’s no wonder why it quickly become a favorite among fans.

A Larger Narrative Emotional Story

“Tonight Belongs to Us” was originally planned to be the launch single for All For The Candy, and its success as the band’s most-streamed track of 2024 made its video release all the more exciting.

Described by frontman Chris Damien Doll as a project that “nicely portrays the emotion I was going for with the lyrics,” the video combines cinematic storytelling with the band’s signature raw edge. Directed by David Gabrielsen and color-graded by Anine Desire, the visuals bring a polished yet gritty aesthetic that matches the track’s tone perfectly. For this release, the band stepped out of their comfort zone, diving into acting and weaving a love story that ties seamlessly with the song’s themes.

“We always try to do something different with our videos,” says Chris. “This time, we wanted to push ourselves creatively, and acting gave us the chance to bring the song’s magic to life in a whole new way.” Adding a personal touch, Chris cast his girlfriend as the female lead, making the love story feel even more authentic.

The video is not just a standalone piece but part of a larger narrative. “Incidentally, the story of this video is interweaved with our next video, so there’s lots more to look forward to,” Chris revealed, hinting at exciting future releases from the band.

On the Origins of “Tonight Belongs to Us”

In an exclusive track-by-track conversation about All For The Candy, frontman Chris Damien Doll, guitarist Stevie Teaze, and bassist Slim shared the story behind the song and how it came to life.

“I’ve had the chorus—title, chords, and melody—for quite some time,” revealed Chris. “I always knew it was a strong idea, but I never got around to finishing it. It goes on a little longer on each chord than we usually do, so it needed a busy riff on top, and I guess that was the roadblock as far as the writing went.” Chris shared that the lyrics aim to evoke the intoxicating feel of a “first love,” wrapped in a more “magical” and romantic tone while retaining a hint of the band’s trademark sexiness. “I wanted the lyrics to convey that ‘first love feel’ without being too obvious,” he explained.

Completing the Puzzle

As with much of Suicide Bombers’ music, “Tonight Belongs to Us” evolved from various fragments of ideas and riffs that had been simmering for years. “The pre-chorus was actually one of four or five different pre-choruses I toyed with for the song ‘Murder Couture’ from our previous album,” Chris shared. “It didn’t feel right for that one, but it was perfect here. Similarly, the verse was one I had been trying for the song ‘We Don’t Negotiate With Terrorists.’ It almost worked then, but was changed at the last minute.”

Stevie Teaze chimed in to highlight the flexibility and creative recycling within the band’s process: “Chris is great at seeing how different pieces can fit into something new. It’s a bit like solving a puzzle but with riffs.”

For Suicide Bombers, finishing a song is often an exercise in patience and perseverance. According to Chris, the middle eight section and the final vocal melody are often the last elements to fall into place, and “Tonight Belongs to Us” was no exception. “The intro riff was one I had lying around, but the middle eight was the last part added,” Chris explained. “Of course, the lyrics and finished vocal melody came together at the very end, which is frequently how it goes for us.”

The band’s dedication to perfecting “Tonight Belongs to Us” has clearly paid off. The song’s intoxicating blend of raw sleaze rock energy and poisonous appeal has captured the hearts of listeners around the world, cementing its place as a one of the best tracks on All For The Candy album. Once again, Suicide Bombers proved why they’re at the forefront of the today’s sleaze rock scene. Bassist C.Slim summed it up perfectly: “It just has that magic that clicks with people.”
