PEACEFIELD and UMBRA EXPOSED: GHOST Fan Reports From The Rituals (SPOILER ALERT)

ONE WEEK ‘TIL GHOST DROPS SKELETA AND THINGS HAVE SERIOUSLY HEATED UP

Yeah guys, it’s that close. The most hyped rock record of the year is almost here — and so far, we’ve only heard two damn songs: Satanized and Lachryma. Teasers, not enough.

BUT — GHOST just kicked off the Skeletour with two shows in Manchester and Glasgow.

AND THEY PLAYED TWO NEW TRACKS: Peacefield + Umbra.

AND OF |COURSE..

NO PHONES WERE ALLOWED.

Tobias Forge pulled the plug. No crappy YouTube videos. No sneaky TikToks. Nothing.

So unless you were there — you ain’t heard ‘em.

That’s where Junkyard Rock Stories steps in.

We went full detective-mode.

We hit up the amazing GHOST fans Ghouls who attended Manchester and Glasgow rituals.

We asked ’em:

“Tell us EVERYTHING. What do these songs sound like? Describe them to us as vividly possible”

And, you know what, they delivered.

We’ve got the closest thing you’ll get to hearing Peacefield and Umbra before album drop day.

Straight from the pit.

Straight from the heart.

Raw impressions. Fan reports. Word-of-mouth is gold these days.

Because right now — remember, with phones in lockdown —

THE WORD IS EVERYTHING. SPOKEN OR WRITTEN!

Peacefield reminded me of Journey’s song Separate Way (World’s Apart). It’s fun! Not quite Kaisarion but still good as an opener! Umbra has cowbell!

“…both tracks had that magical thing that only Ghost seem to be able to do – they somehow sound like you’ve heard them before. Need to hear it again but I think Umbra will be a better track than Lachryma.”

“Umbra would go well in a movie training montage – in the best possible way.”

“Just great. Strong 80s vibe which I personally like. Basically if you like ghost you’ll love the songs.

It’s hard to explain when you’ve only heard it the one time and it was through massive blasting speakers and you were uber excited 🤣🤣 I did think “oooh, can’t wait to listen to Peacefield again” as it sounded pretty good, and by the time Umbra came round I was already in a state of euphoria 😅

“Peacefield sounds like Seperate Ways by Journey Umbra sounds like the music that plays when an 80s action star is driving through the city at night, with added cowbell”

“The opening synths from Chapter 18 are the main melody of Umbra, but in guitar and vocal form. It’s punchy. I’m looking forward to hearing it on the album. There was a massive guitar vs keyboard solo section in the middle which I’m curious to see makes the record, or if it was just a chance for the live performers to have fun.”

“People keep saying both songs feel like 80’s rock ballads has me hyped like crazy cause that’s always my favorite stuff from Ghost. Darkness At The Heart Of My Love and He Is are GOATED.”

“Peacefield stood out to me in particular. Very 80s. Good opener. I see what Tobias meant when he said this album was the follow up to Impera in terms of sound, but Lachryma sounds like a Meloria song to me, so I think the album will have some appeal for fans who miss the “old sound”. I hope it’s a nice balance. Something for everyone.”

“I was so excited and shocked I have no clue what any of the lyrics were and did not know it was peacefield till i came on here and someone said it was. Recognized umbra from that opening sort of synth tune”

“Both 80s as fuck. Both really good live. Can’t wait for the album so I can replay Umbra to the point I’m sick of it 🤘🏻 it was a real highlight for me”

“I can’t wait for Umbra to come out! Song had a tonne of energy and a COW BELL!!”

“Peacefield’s opening reminded me of Bright Eyes by Garfunkel but I don’t know if that’s the actual song intro or they just used it for the show. Then it’s an 80s power ballad. Umbra sounds like Van Halen.”

“I thought Peacefield had a bit of a 80s Journey vibe.”

“Peacefield is a brilliant opener – really driving. The energy just went through the roof!”

“I loved peacefield. But as the show opener, I couldn’t tell you anything about it as I was just sort of in a daze haha.”

“Umbra was a legit banger though. Very 80s. A strong contender for album favourite already haha”

“All I could say about Umbra was it had a catchy chorus and tune that I got into on the first listen”

“Peacefield is an incredible show opener – both this and Umbra are very 80s ballad-y rock vibes and are both very very good songs which makes me even more excited about Skeleta! Umbra you’ve already kind of heard – the synths playing just as V was about to open the door but couldn’t get in…that’s Umbra!

We hope this was enough to give you an impression… So yeah, the ‘80s vibe is present in these songs too. Now that video on our YouTube channel from a few days ago doesn’t seem so unrealistic anymore, does it?
