Ghost Announce Official New Video Footage – and It’s on 16mm Film (Explained)
Ghost have officially announced that the first post – Skeleta video footage is on the way! The band broke the news through their social pages, confirming that the last two shows of the Skeletour, both played in Mexico, were filmed on 16mm film. The rituals took place at Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City on September 24th and 25th. As you already know, there should have been three concerts, but the opening night had to be canceled after Tobias Forge came down with food poisoning.
Therefore, it’s a short way from food poisoning to 16mm video glory, if you go by the name Ghost, of course. Anyway, after a long Skeletour run, and after many short clips on Ghoulbangers Ball and, of course, plenty of leaked fan footage, we are finally going to get a proper Ghost recording made by the band. But this time, quite differently than, let’s say, their last live video Rite Her Rite Now from 2024 — it’s going to be on 16mm film.
But, what is 16mm film?
For those of us who aren’t film nerds, here’s the deal: 16mm is basically an old-school motion picture format that Kodak rolled out back in the 1920s as a cheaper, safer alternative to 35mm. It’s smaller, lighter, and was mostly used for home movies, indie productions, or underground stuff because it didn’t cost a fortune to shoot. Sure, it doesn’t have the super-sharp resolution of 35mm, but that’s not the point, it’s got this raw, grainy vibe that adds a ton of character. A lot of filmmakers still use it today exactly because of that unique look and the way it captures atmosphere.
In conclusion, however it’s filmed, this is going to be rad. Just imagine Papa and all the Ghoulettes playing and dancing on their perfectly arranged stage, with the crowd in a frenzy, enjoying every moment without their phones. This is what we’ve been talking about in all our previous articles and YouTube videos. This is what we’ve been waiting for. Now we only need the official release date of this masterpiece-in-the-making. Because, after all — it’s Ghost we’re talking about.
