Crossbone Skully Have a Problem Now
When Crossbone Skully released Evil World Machine in 2024, it made a pretty big impression here on Junkyard. The fact that album was voted for the Best Album of the Year by our readers, naturally makes the arrival of their second record with much more expectations than already attached.
Now Tommy Henriksen and his Rock n’ Roll Misfits are back with new song Thunder Love, featuring Phil Collen from Def Leppard. The song is the first taste of Condemned to Rock n’ Roll, the sophomore release, and the guest list alone suggests that Crossbone Skully are aware of their legacy and therefor aiming high from the start.
Phil Collen plays lead guitar and contributes vocals, while Mutt Lange serves as executive producer. Glen Sobel handles the drums on the recording, with, of course Tommy Henriksen and Anna “Blackthorn” Cara being also heavily involved.
The interesting thing in this new chapter is that Thunder Love doesn’t really try to reinvent Crossbone Skully. The song stays close to the larger-than-life rock sound that the band established on their debut, while Phil Collen gives it a direct connection to the classic rock world that Tommy Henriksen has been part of through Alice Cooper and Hollywood Vampires.
Ambitious and bombastic as it is, it leaves the most interesting question for the full album: can Crossbone Skully do it again?
Maybe it’s too early to say buy Condemned to Rock n’ Roll has some serious names behind it, but ultimately the songs will have to do the talking. After giving Evil World Machine our top spot in 2024, we will certainly be listening closely.
