“It Started Like an Idiotic Pop Punk Song” – Mats Warnerson Breaks Down New The Cruel Intentions Track
The Cruel Intentions are back with All Hail Hypocrisy, the fourth and final shot fired before their upcoming album of the same name drops.
But instead of serving up another generic copy-paste news piece, we went straight to the source. We caught up with bassist Mats Warnerson, who gave us a quick-and-dirty breakdown of the single: what’s behind it, how it came together, and why this one’s the big statement before the album lands.

1. All Hail Hypocrisy is a strong song title – what’s the story behind it?
All Hail Hypocrisy is a defiant statement against manipulation, double standards, and the culture of playing the victim. Fueled by frustration with fake people and twisted narratives, the track captures the moment when patience runs out and there’s nothing left but calling it as it is. It’s loud, unapologetic and driven by a refusal to play along with the game.
2. Was there a specific riff, lyric, or hook that started it all? And who wrote the track?
It all started with the main melody line, almost like a theme from a children’s song. A little annoying and impossible to get out of your head once it’s in there. Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse) wrote a demo and sent to me with the title ”idiotic pop punk song” an I instantly knew it was a song we could make our own. Lizzy wrote the lyrics and it all came together as one of our strongest song ever. My favorite on the album.
3. When did the song come together during the writing process?
It was summer 2025 while me and Erik was emailing ideas back and forth. But it took a few months until it really clicked with lyrics and sound.
4. From a musical standpoint, how does this track differ from the previous singles released from the album?
This is the most sing a long track of the 4 singles and the one with the biggest melodic hook for sure. I can’t wait to play it live and hear the crowd chanting ALL HAIL HYPOCRISY.
5. All Hail Hypocrisy serves as both the title track and the final single ahead of the album – why this song as the big statement?
I think we knew from the beginning that this was the track that could make the biggest impact because of it’s swagger, hook and title. It’s pure melodic hard rock with the classic TCI grit and darkness that’s become our trademark.
With the final single now out, all eyes are on the full All Hail Hypocrisy album as the release draws closer. Now, go back and spin the previous three singles, and don’t forget – the full album drops May 29!
