Hardcore Superstar Release New-Old Bonus Track from Their 2005 Album – Why Is the Black Album Actually the Band’s First Album?
Swedish sleaze metal legends Hardcore Superstar have treated their fans to a new-old song, “GTO,” which was originally only available on the Japanese edition of their 2005 album Hardcore Superstar. This Friday, November 25, the song became available on all streaming platforms, accompanied by a brand-new lyric video. In addition, the band has also released a vinyl reissue of the album.
In essence, Jocke simply confirmed what fans had been saying for years. The first four albums—It’s Only Rock n Roll (1998), Bad Sneakers and a Pina Colada (2000), Thank You (2001), and No Regrets (2003)—showed the band struggling to find their sound. That uncertainty finally ended in 2005, when they established the signature Hardcore Superstar style that remains their trademark to this day. The Hardcore Superstar album (Black Album) became their most successful record, and it was even ranked among the Top 3 albums of the 2000s by Sweden Rock Magazine. Along with other bands like Crashdïet, Backyard Babies, Crazy Lixx, Gemini Five, and more, Hardcore Superstar helped shape the new wave of sleaze-glam rock during that era.
When it comes to the 2005 album Hardcore Superstar, also known among fans as the Black Album, we can confidently say that it was the first true Hardcore Superstar album—a fact recently confirmed by frontman Jocke Berg. In an interview with The Rockpit Australia, he explained that the band had struggled with their sound on their first three albums due to pressure from their then-major Swedish record label. “They wanted us to sound like The Hives because that was popular at the time,” Jocke said, referring to the late ’90s and early 2000s music trends. “Then one day, Thomas Silver (then-guitarist), Martin Sandvik (bass), and Adde (drums) decided to make the kind of music we truly loved, and that’s how ‘Wild Boys’ was born, followed by the entire album. That year, 2005, felt like our first real year as a band, even though we had officially started in 1997.”
After this nostalgic throwback, let’s not forget that Hardcore Superstar also released their twelfth studio album this year, titled Abrakadabra.
