Duff McKagan Releases “Tenderness Live In Los Angeles” Concert (Pro Video)

Duff McKagan is celebrating the five-year anniversary of his acclaimed second solo album, “Tenderness,” with a new live collection titled “Tenderness Live In Los Angeles.” Released on Friday, May 31, this double-live album captures a special performance from June 13, 2019, at the historic El Rey Theatre, just days after “Tenderness” first came out. The live album features McKagan performing a mix of his own songs and some deeply personal cover versions, backed by the talented 3x Grammy Award-winning producer Shooter Jennings and his band. One of the standout tracks is an electrifying version of “River Of Deceit,” a song originally by Seattle supergroup Mad Season, which includes McKagan’s close friends Mike McCready, Barrett Martin, and the late Layne Staley and John Baker Saunders.

McKagan expressed his joy in working with Shooter Jennings and his band, highlighting the unique contributions of Aubrey Richmond on fiddle and John Scheffler on pedal steel guitar. These musicians brought new dimensions to the “Tenderness” album, leading McKagan into a fresh musical direction. The live recording from the El Rey in Los Angeles showcases not only the original tracks from “Tenderness” but also some covers they incorporated into their live set, like “Clampdown” by The Clash and several Guns N’ Roses favorites. McKagan described these live shows as a celebration and a powerful coming together of the band and the audience, making each performance a meaningful experience.

Shooter Jennings also shared his excitement about working with McKagan, describing it as one of the highlights of his life. He recalled the packed crowd at the El Rey and the special feeling of the performance. Mixing the live album years later at Sunset Sound Studio 3, using the same custom API console that Prince used for “Purple Rain,” was a thrilling experience for Jennings. The newly mixed album brings McKagan’s striking songcraft to life, featuring live versions of “Tenderness” tracks like “Chip Away,” which received high praise from Bob Dylan. The live collection, “Tenderness Live In Los Angeles,” offers fans a chance to relive the magic of McKagan’s live shows and experience the intimate journey through his music.
